Coney Island Brewery

There’s a million sights to see and things to do in Coney Island, but one of the big attractions for us was Coney Island Brewing. When we first moved to NYC in 2016, we started to see a number of this brewery’s beer around. Now, it’s everywhere, probably helped by being pushed by Boston Beer Company. The brewery is a good stop if you’re in Coney Island. It’s right next to the minor league Cyclone Park and has ample outdoor seating during the summer. The indoor space was very small, and only had one bathroom (our best guess is that if the Mermaid Parade had not been the day before, some outdoor porta-potties would have been available). A quick Google search will show that they are planning on expanding, and should be completed by mid August of 2019.

We just happened to go on “Puppies and Pints Day”, where numerous dogs are brought in hopes that someone will adopt them, maybe after having a couple beers.

Their Pride 365 was a big seller that day, as it was another Pride New England IPA. It did not disappoint though, as it was nice and juicy while maintaining a decent amount of dankness from the hops. Their Tarot Gone Gose is a really great example of the style. I love when there are noticeable yeast notes in a Gose, and this was no exception.

The last beer I had here was their Spelt Parkway. Spelt is an ancient grain making a comeback, that was probably responsible for some of the first beer brewed by the Sumerians. When used in a grist, it makes a beer smooth, mild, and possibly even a little nutty. While on a hot summer day this may not have been my first choice, it’s still an excellent beer and a chance to try a different malt than barley, wheat, or rye.

I'm glad to see this brewery doing well, and hopefully with beers like these, it will only continue to grow.
